Daponte String Quartet

DaPonte 5a
Fri. Feb 3
7:00 pm

The DaPonte String Quartet is going all-electric for a special FREE Valentine’s Day concert. Using electric violins, cello and viola designed by NS Design of Nobleboro, the Quartet will serve up a romantic evening of love songs, new and old, as well as classical pieces like you’ve never heard them before.
The program ranges from Randall Thompson’s “Alleluia” arranged for string quartet to Leonard Cohen’s well-loved modern version of it (“Hallelujah”). After exploring what Gabrieli, Purcell, and Vivaldi sound like on instruments, the Quartet returns to its own arrangement of a mash-up of Pachelbel and Michael Jackson it calls “Pachelbel, I Want You Back.” The concert concludes with such romantic and evocative pieces as Astor Piazzolla’s Tango, Cohen’s “Dance Me to the End of Love,” Moisés Simon’s “The Peanut Vendor,” Jacques Larue’s “Cherry Pink and Apple Blossom White,” and a Peter Schickele piece from String Quartet #1,”Dance Music.”
Tickets are free, but reservations are required: 529-4555.
